After using $70 million in the making ofSaving Private Ryan, the movie earned $30,576,104 in the United States alone on opening weekend. Viewers were astounded by the use of sound effects and the realism present in the film. Its popularity was due not only to its skill at capturing the feeling of warfare but its director, Steven Spielberg. Saving Private Ryan followed Speilberg's Schindler's List, another positively recieved film.
