opening scene
Saving Private Ryan is a story based on the United States of America Invading Normandy France on June, 6 1944. The story begins with an epic retelling of the the bloody assault on the beaches of Normandy. Tasked with leading a portion of th assualt, Capt. John H. Miller storms the beach and hides behind a small bunker with his men. He watches as soldiers take fire from the German forces gunning from bunkers higher on the beach. As he leads his men to a large sand hill he succombs to heavy resiliance. As his sniper team kills the opostion he leads his men behind the enemy fortifications and they take them down one bunker at a time. As the opening scene pans out, you witness the daed men lieing on the beach. Among them, Private S. Ryan laying dead with the waves from the ocean crashing against his bullet riddled body.
the order is given
The next scene you witness is the offices of the officers back in Washington, D.C., a discovery is made in the condolence section of army headquarters. Three of theRyan brothers have been killed almost at the same time. A fourth brother, James Ryan, is somewhere in Normandy with the 101st Airborne Division. The Chief of Staff of the Army, General George Marshall, orders him found and and to return home.
the mission begins
The Order is recieved in Normandy 3 days after the initial enviasion of Normandy. The Army sends out 8 men to find Private Ryan and to return with him. Capt. Miller rallys a few of his closest and best soliers and set out for the landing place of the 101st. As they load up into a transport they begin to ralize the importance of their mission.
the radar outpost
As they roam through the countryside they come along many fallen paratroopers They had been taking out whiledescending by a german machine gunner defending a radar station. As they arrive at the location of the radar station they decide to take it out. As they take out the radar point one of their men is fatally hit and killed. As retaliation they capture a German soldier and provoke him. Eventually, they decide to let him go after much debate about killing him. As they come to a bombed out city they meet the 101st.
final battle
The search for private Ryan ends when he is found and refuses to abandon his comrades and mission to go home. Reluctantly, Capt. Miller devises a plan to defend the bridge that the Germans would use to mount reinforcments. The Germans mount a full assault on the city and the fight intensifies. Many Americans fall, including Capt. Miller. German tanks begin roll up to the bridge and the soldiers begin to lose hope. Just as they are about to give up, , a P-51 bomber destroys the tanks. The private holds the captain as he fades and leaves Ryan with one last bit of advice - "Earn this life, Earn this." |
